new poll and info

So I have started a new poll...just wanted to know how you came here

In addition I Have add a new feature perhaps up to date (is it still?)that allow you to follow this blog update more easily, but if you use a reader with RSSfeed I don't think it's highly usefull, except for me to share some other small information that doesn't really need A blog update.

create your own playlist on your blog with Deezer

Finally I succeed in creating a playlist using Deezer

It took me a while to understand how it works and how I could add my playlist to this site but when you understand it's quite easy to do and ...to share

Here are the step in case you would like to make the same

1 ->First you need to create your account at the above mentioned site it's a simple free registration

2 -> After you create your playlist by simple using the search engine to find track and album you're looking for

3 -> finally you copy the full link in the share 'Partager' section that you see on the picture below and in your block add a widget and just use the Html/javascript widget put a Title a short description and copy the embeded code given and that's it

Hope this will help people to do the same at their blogs ;)

Website of the moment

I thaught it would be an interesting idea to share some links, stuffs or infos that could be usefull to all visitors of this place. This message will serve also as an archive for all relevent informations to keep an eyes on. I'm also looking to add a section where I could share my 'music from the moment' where I could simply put author's name and album's name with some short part of dedicated songs like when you go to itunes store...if anybody knows about a blogger gadget to do this i'm interested.

Will certainly add soon a poll gadget to better interact with readers of this page.

date 19/02/10 : Sixth website of the moment   After more than 10 years Quake 1 has still a quite active community but a lot of information are spread all over the net and it's not always that evident to find the right info at the right moment, there has been a solution for quite a while so if you need anything related to Quake1 just pass at Quake terminus , I'm pretty sure you will find the info, site, map, stuff...that you need.

date 24/09/09 : Fifth website of the moment  This one really seems to be the hugest collection according FPS everything is referenced here since the first FPS till now (there is hundreds of them referenced from offical one to even particular addon only available in certain country), everything can't be nearly find here or at least some information, download are also published but sometime it may need a quite bit of time if you want to download it or it can only be linked to torrent system whish are not always erfectly secured...so it's on your own risk so just take a look at 3d Shooter Legends , I'm ptretty sure you will find the addon you never found before.

date 01/06/09 : fourth website of the moment Nothing really exeptionnal but so handfull if you play an offocial game, look for easter eggs or want some perfectly fitting screenshots it's really an ants works and deserve easily some attention Visual Walktrough for the most classic games You wont need it regulary but perhaps like for me on one day it will be very usefull

date 23/04/09 : third website of the moment
regarding the previous link to those old FPS games from first generation if you are looking to the game based on the build engine the biggest ressources is certainly Ressources for Total Conversions and Mods page nearly all good thinks from building to playing is here available a must for every fan

date 01/04/09 : second website of the momentHere is an interesting web page oriented to all loved old FPS and related port to make them more playable with actual OS
FPS Ports

date 19/03/09 : first website of the momentI will start with Nem's tools a site dedicated to...tools used for mappers and especially the one usung the valve enginefrom terrain generator to file viewer and compiler there seems to be a quite interesting link of stuff here
Nem's tools

Happy New year to you all readers

I wish to all of you the best for the upcoming year(s) and would like to thank you all for your discrete support during this past 2 years (I didn't have a lot of feedback according the over 70 post i made), but having more than 1000 hits in arround 2 month and a half was a great surprise that encourage me to update this blog more during the last two months.

I think I won't change the rules during 2009 and will continue with reviews about things that let me a good feeling while playing, I just hope to succeed in posting arround 30 review a year like for the past two years.

Just want to remember that you can contact me to submit something to review or simply post your feeling about the reviews, I had also a mixed opinion about digging some old stuff for game such as quake, duke nukem, Redneck rampage but i'm not sure if a lot of people would be interested.

So feel free to ask and make proposal to increase the quality of this site

Oh and don't forget that soon the new virtual rally championship will take place at Rallyesim just hoping to do better that in 2008 where i finished on the 20th place on over 600 players that were able to score.

For this year I also launched with my friends from our WRC private team a blog (only in french) don't hesitate to follow our carrier there during this year

Holiday at Aegean Melathron

I had 3 week of holiday during August and I will just share my 14 days Greeks experience with you, readers

This year for our family holiday we decided to go to Greece to find the sun that didn't really shine here in Belgium.

We reserved our holiday at the Aegean Melathron situated on the nearly island of Kassandra part of Chalkidiki on aproximatly 100km south of Thessaloniki.

The first aim of the holidays was to take some rest and perhaps rent a car or do some trips to visit the region. Hotel was quite intesting especially regarding the confort of the room (wide, well located, calm and with an outstanding layout).
The Hotel is quite well organized with lot's of swimming pools, restaurant, and houses well oriented. The old part beach part of the road was build 5 years ago the new part on the other side of the road (linked by a tunnel) was opened this year.
The tourist are comming from everywhere but mainly Bulgary, Greece, Germany, England and Belgium...language most common used is english...
Service at the hotel was what is neede with cleaning, adding confort with sometimes great touch of services like chocolate in the room every evening, a small drink if you are late at the evening diner, small golf car for travelling to the beach, ...
I was sadly a little disapointed by mainly the excessive price of drinks at diner time, the food deliver was certainly in good quantity but the quality sometimes make you more think as a 3star hotel...also people behavior at the dinner room was unrespectable but this happens everywhere.

In addition to the hotel holiday we add two travelling excursions:

  • the safari (safari-hellas), a day trip through forest roads with a great guide called Stratos landscape is wonderfull even a little distroyed by some fire 5 years ago. recommanded if you can drive and can do it all you family

  • the pirate cruise more made to take tourist money it was ok but nothing really special no real animation, jumping from the ship into the sea, swim and following the coast with a simple dish at lunch time but for the kids it was ok

there are lots of other posibility: karting, night club, visiting kalithea, scuba diving and lots more

Even if holiday become quite expensive and it's more and more difficult to find something with a good relation between price and quality the Aegean Melathron is certainly a place to take in account...also Greece is a perfect place to visit if you like sunny days, fun, not too expensive and the lool and swim in a marvellous blue sea.

I also have add a new link to my bad guy it's a small game where nearly everything is fixed except your bad guy that you need to create to fight against me and the others everyday (to start 6 fights and after 3 fights a day) you make some battle and win points whish will make you increase in ranking.
To progress you have also another way is to add 'students' by linking you profile to friends (that what i'm doing here) the pyramidal effect in some way...the only frustration if that fights are happening out of control except the choosing of you opponent...quite pathetic

My FPS History and releases

This time is time to make a break from the classic stuff and perhaps tells you that I made (but most of you should know this...) some maps.

The story just started 4 years ago on Alejandro Mapping Center were I got interviewed by other member about doing so much review and never made a map. So I took it personally and started to build a map for the game who made me discovered FPS : Duke Nukem.

I first look for several tutorial to learn the basic stuff and then started building a snow theme map slightly based on the horror movie The thing. The approach of build engine (editor for Duke Nukem) is a mix between 2d and 3d, I found it really easy to handle, even if most of the think you do are not always logic regarding nowedays tools. The really great adventage of all build games is that you can easily open all map and look how people did things. I was so able and proud to make in less than 100 hours (all include learning mapping and beta testing) a map that was well accept from all the community.
Since I'm sometimes a fan of Science-Fi Horror Movie I decide to take some reference from John Carpenter's movie: The Thing. That's why the map was a snowy based map featuring also the original theme from the movie.

For more info about this release check out the review available The Abandoned Workshop and MSDN

Screenshots and direct download from Antartica : outpost 31

I also did a small part in the Community Build Project 7. My part was a connection to a sewer than then goes to an industrial complex part finishing in a garage. I want to make it a little Half-Life theme my part was quite short but i mostly used the fixed limit in wall and sprites. I think that my part was certainly not the best but at least after more than one year without using the build engine I was able to add my cent to a community build project, this map is considered by some people as actually the best community build project.

Check the next review site for more infos: The Abandoned Workshop , MSDN and DN-Repository

Sceenshots from my part

Finally after working for CBP7 and understanding how to make sprites floors i decided to start a new ambitious project slightly based on a blackmesa complex. after arround 10 hours of mapping the project felt down. I have still a copy from the map that also integrates a new skybox.

Some screenshots

I was recently playing a lot of custom maps for Quake 2 and just noticed that this theme was never visited for a Duke Nukem map...This could perhaps be a good opportunity to restart building ;)

Break from reviewing Stuff

You have certainly seen that the site wasn't a lot updated in the last weeks...Not that I don't want to continue or have a lack of interest, I have simply discover 3 ago A new gaming experience that is actually holding me busy sothat exept a really short gaming time i didn't touch FPS games since this period.

Since more than 25 years I have always be interesting in car competition and especially Rallying between 1994 and 1999 I participated in over 60 Rally, mostly regional, as a codriver since then and the growing up of my family, I decided, to stop the competition mainly because it can be risky and dangerous (2 codrivers dies during the last 4 month in Belgium :( )

Since then even if I follow all competition mostly behind my computer I didn't jump in a car anymore but was impressed but the unique experience that was given to us be playing racing games such as Collin McRae serie, DTM series and a lot more.
In 2004 a new experience came out It wasn't simply an arcade game like the previous it was a really simulation called Richard Burns Rally A really fantastic but quite difficult game to play with realistic crash the possibility to setup you car from gear to suspension and a lot more...
The only problem of this game was the lack to a good multiplayer online experience.

A small amount of people decided to create this experience 3 years ago and since then it simply grows up. They have add new stages (over 20), new cars (over 30) and new weather conditions that make the possibility to run over 100 different stages. Also new physics for cars (traction or proulsion) have been implemented to really add a unique experience.

By a simple miracle I found this at the end of last year and on March decided to jump into this new experience... Since then I play nearly everyday or simple just ajust the car to win here and there some time.

Championships have been organized for such contry has France, Belgium, Porrtugal and Malagasy...the online system is quite simple you play on you computer and datas are send by the net, for this you need to registered on a session, 10 to 20 sessions per rally being organized by week. Regarding you result you will collect points that will be use for a driver ranking and a team ranking...
The game is mostly cover by a online forum where you know every new things and stuff that might be interesting average Age is beween 20 and 40

Finally is 100% free except that you need a (legal) copy of the original game

Actually and it's perhaps the only sad point since this interface was build up by a french team, Over 80% of the player are french speaking but a english forum exist

Here

For more info don't hesitate to contact me personally or feel free to visit the home page

Improving contents

Thanks to Mikko Sandt I will add a integrate feature of Blogger called Labels (it's still work in progress) this will make people able to directly go to a special theme (in my case Game associated with map or mod).
For the one who are not familiar with it at the bottom of each review will appear a label (Quake2, Half-Life,...) by simply clicking on it you will see all review associated with the game.

I will also try to add in the review (this will be more usefull for WW2 sp map corner a link in each review to other reviewed map from the same author.

Sorry for the lack of update this is mainly due to actual professionnal life and i hope it will slow down in the future.

Any questions or comments are welcome ;)

new link

I recently decided to add some review for the let's called them WW2 game release (so map for all version of Call of Duty and MOHAA)
If we consider Sp map corner as a place where we can see covering of most games that are related to science-fi and so to planetphillip, i thaught it was better to not mix WW2 and Sciense-fi.
If you're interest there is a link in the right toolbar called only for ww2 sp campain

if you want to add the link in your favorite : http://ww2spmapcorner.blogspot.com/

any suggestion or comment are welcome.

Hello

This is my second blog and its also focussed on SP map for FPS related to a collection of review I made during 3 year for Alejandro Mapping Center.

The aim of this blog will be to provide a short review from a map or mod non professionally released with screenshots, info an others.

Game Covered will be HL, RTCW, HL2 and DOOM3 and will be normally linked to planetphillip (www.planetphillip.com) according his Syndicated reviews.

I hope you will enjoy you tour and will interact with this blog especially if you're regarding to some maps and mods. Also if you would like to see a review for another game (Duke Nukem, Shadow Warrior, Redneck Rampage, Q1, Q2,...) don't hesitate to post a message

Actually my other blog has the same covering but in Frensh: http://fps-stock.blogspot.com/
